Welcome to Lake Keowee

Lake Keowee is a 18,372 acre man-made lake operated by Duke Energy. It is known for its mountainous surroundings. Public access is available through a variety of public boat ramps and local and state parks. "Place of the Mulberries" is the meaning of Keowee in the language of the Lower Cherokee Nation, which made the settlement site (now underwater) its capital. Europeans first visited Keowee when Spain`s Hernando DeSoto passed through in 1540. Lake Keowee is just downstream from Lake Jocassee, which sits just south of the North Carolina state line in the heart of the Palmetto state`s beautiful mountain country.
